I don’t know why America, or at least the population on Twitter is obsessed with bacon…It’s a phenomenon I wasn’t aware of until I joined Twitter. That said, I have wondered what a bacon cupcake would look like, taste like. After talking to our own Cupcake Diva, Lisa Watson of Cupcake Jones, I wondered how she would accomplish this task – creating a bacon cupcake that Portland really needs.
For a while, I forgot about it. The other day it was brought to my attention by my new copy of FastCompany…with a Vosges Chocolates ad. Yes, a full page ad with a strip of bacon flanking the left side of the page. A chocolate pig was “jumping” over some spices and a little pile of crumbled bacon. Yes folks, they have made a Bacon chocolate bar!
That’s when it happened…could this be a clue to what a bacon cupcake might have in it, or on it? I went to Google and found an interesting mix of results – some bacon cupcake recipes, and then a mix of the really bizarre – Garlic? How about one with Ancho Chiles?
I found Dark Chocolate and Bacon cupcakes, from A Good Appetite. This recipe seems pretty much the winner, and worth a try. The we have maple Bacon cupcakes with Maple Frosting, from Vanilla Garlic. This one looks promising too…and Garrett makes a good point about there being bacon baklava, bacon candy, and bacon ice cream. BACON BAKLAVA!!!! OMG!
After composing myself, I continued…Another Dark Chocolate Bacon Cupcake recipe over at Allrecipes.com – this one is different with its 1 cup of cold, strong coffee, and 4 more pieces of bacon than the one over at Good Appetite. Then I ran into Iron Cupcake and wow! What a cupcake extravaganza…her recipe is different in dusting with cocoa afterwards, and 12-20 slices! Mmmm…According to her taste-testers, they were a raging success, find the recipe here.
So there you have it folks…it can be done and now we wait. Follow Cupcake Jones here, and put your vote in for a bacon cupcake.
BACON BAKLAVA!!!! OMG!
