Participation in the various leagues in the metro area is not the only field time members can get involved in. Netrippers also travel to various tournaments in the Pacific Northwest targeted for the GLBT athletes. They also hold their own annual summer grass tournament. Being able to have basic equipment and playing fields for the year is a consideration of fundraising each year. As there is interest to play in double the amount of “seasons” this year so will the cost. To offset this a raffle was conducted to win various prizes by the end of the night ranging from Timbers gear, gift certificates, to even a gay movie/safe sex package from Taboo video. Fortunately, a male member of the organization won the movie package to the jeers of the crowd.

We hate to see publications go…it started with newspapers nationwide and continues with magazines that we all know and love. PDX Magazine has announced it is shutting down production. We’re sad to see it go and hope they at least continue their magazine on their blog.

Here is what Hollyanna McCollom posted on their blog:

Thanks for the memories, PDX!
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of PDX Magazine. Since October of 2005, we’ve had the pleasure of writing about one of the greatest cities in the world; and we consider it a privilege to have shared some of our favorite elements of it with you.

Our operation has always been quite small (usually a core group of 4-5 people assembling content/writing/editing/designing), and of late that has been to our benefit. When things got tough, we got creative. We buckled down. We worked harder and longer and we made sacrifices wherever we could. Sadly, the challenges of creating a high-quality print publication every month outweigh the practicalities of sustaining it any longer.

Thank you for your readership and support throughout these past years. It has been a rough-and-tumble, but glorious ride.

-Hollyanna McCollom
Editor-in-Chief

It’s this kind of news that can make one wonder why id Magazine is launching in these uncertain times. We know times are tough, and we know that now is probably not the best time to launch a magazine. However, as the old saying goes…why wait for all the stars to align and everything is perfectly set to launch a new business or publication?

I began this journey because I saw that our community was not being covered online and in print as it deserves to be. The LGBTIQ community is so rich with resources, empowering and inspirational stories, groups to join, teams to be active with and causes to bring us together to do more good in the world and our state. This is what we’re here for, and we won’t waiver from it.

We will begin this journey officially August 27th, 2009 with our premiere September issue on Film. I hope you join us and lend your voice to this magazine both online and in print.

Cheers – Christian Messer, Publisher, id Magazine

Those of us chosen 500 who attended the fab Bling Dental Grand Opening June 12 will note that Dr. Raymond Frye is NOT, I repeat, NOT afraid to spend the bucks on us. I for one am blown away by what I saw and the tremendous generosity of his gifts. He brings some of the glamour and sparkle of the Las Vegas Strip to this choice Pearl corner. The opening was full of beautiful peeps who munched catered foods and sipped Champagne served by delicious-looking hunks. Much of what happened that night was a direct result of the hard work of Brian Ramsay, principal real estate broker, who specializes in Westside condos and businesses. He promises the same great service if you choose a commercial piece of property from him. Checkbook anyone??
