Marriage is marriage; it exists outside of religion, so why is religion being used as it's benchmark; why do some relious people think they own the word. Check the dictionary; it's NOT just the joining of a man and a woman. There are several other uses of the word, some not evening pertaining to people. Check the American Heritage dictionary; it doesn't even use the word 'people' in the definition: "A close or intimate union." Again, religion is trying to control the masses. Religion is the corruption of God/god/G-D.<br><br>If marriage is "for the children" then why are people allowed to marry before or without having children? And with that reasoning that it is "for the children" then gay people who have children should be allowed to marry.<br><br>Marriage is a civil institution; it is not required to be performed by a clergy, it is performed by civil servants, e.g., Judges, Mayand other government officials. The license to marry is issued by governments, not religious institutions. Therefore it should be a government dictated institution with no connection to religion or guideline, rules or dictation of any religions person, organization, institution or body.<br><br>We should be like Europe; Marriages should be performed only by government officials, not by any religious clergy; if two person wish to have a religious ceremony, they arrange for that religious ceremony apart and separate of the legal marriage ceremony. Then what? What chance for happiness will I have then? Already, most, or all, of the best-looking men are acknowledged homosexuals. This is a scary thought.
